The Yamaha Stage Custom Nouveau 5-Piece Fusion Drum Set is a drum kit that's ready for serious grooving. The toms groan with tone. The bass drum is deep and thunderous. The steel snare drum is crisp and responsive. Rich finishes adorn deeper and thinner 8-ply shells with 1.6mm triple-flange steel hoops and birch (outer ply), Philippine mahogany, and falkata construction. Yamaha's Air Seal System used for shell construction ensures each and every shell is of uniform thickness and perfectly round to achieve superior tone quality and durability.

Nouveau lugs are attached to the shell by fiber-reinforced composite bolts at 2 points by a unique floating design that reduces vibration damping. It also makes changing heads easier since you don't have to remove the tuning bolts. Rack toms feature the Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System (YESS) mounting system that allows attachment of the drum to the tom holder without the need of a hole in the drum shell for the rod to pass through. The ball-clamp triple tom holder gives total freedom in positioning and superior stability. The bass drum features matching wood hoops and sturdy hexagonal bass drum spurs. Includes wood snare with Nouveau lugs. Cymbals not included.

This is really just an excellent drum set. Everything on it is very high quality and it looks amazing. Keep in mind, I can't tell you about the hardware because I got a shell pack, but the set itself is just amazing. The set hardware is very high quality, no problems with it, and the heads lasted about a year, which is excellent for stock heads. I put Remo Emperors on the toms, and I have to say, it sounds very much like a Yamaha recording custom.

I still have the stock head on the snare, but it still sounds great. High pitched and warm with a lot of extra ring, but if you like the ring, like me, its good to add to your collection. I have tried a RemO ring on it and it also sounds fantastic. However, I currently use it as a second snare with the snares off, sort of like a timbale and it's ideal for that.

Overall, it's a great set. The toms sound like a recording custom, the bass is a nice low thud with an Aquarion on it, and the snare is very warm, bright, and versatile. The set also is made very well, and it looks amazing. This is perfect if you're a beginner-intermediate and looking to upgrade your set a bit.

I have gigged on and off for 20+ years and really appreciate the light weight of the drums, sturdy (but not too heavy) hardware, and the overall great quality and sound these drums have. Sure, the Matte Sienna isn't the most fancy finish around, but it's elegantly understated and really easy to keep clean. The hoops could be heavier, but they do the job and stay in tune pretty well. I've owned EVERY major drum brand and no one does tom mounts as well as Yamaha. When I remember the 60's Ludwig set I learned to play on, I realize drum set quality has come a long way in general, especially when you consider that this is a lower priced set. Oh, yeah- get new batter heads!
