The Yamaha Oak Custom 4-Piece Fusion Shell Pack follows in the footsteps of the Yamaha birch, maple, and beech drum series, oak offers excellent qualities as a drum shell material. A solid fundamental delivers powerful sound while its character allows for a unique drumshell size line up. Beautifully grained, this hardwood creates a drum with stunning looks. The bass drum shell is 7-ply while the toms and floor tom shells are 6-ply.

Air Seal System for Superior Shells
The use of the Air Seal System is in part responsible for the superior quality found in Yamaha drum shells. Select woods are cut into plies, positioned with staggered diagonal seams, and sealed together with evenly distributed air pressure. The resulting drumshells are perfectly round and of uniform thickness delivering superior tone quality and exceptional durability.

Oak Shells are Universal Sizes
The Oak Custom shell depths are sized in-between Yamaha's jazz depth and power depth drums. The universal size allows for maximum projection while maintaining strong attack. The added depth enhances the oak tone with greater bottom end and more power.

New Small Lugs
These newly designed, small, oval-shaped lugs are easily attached to the shell with a single bolt. Small footprints offer minimum lug-to-shell contact allowing the shell to deliver maximum tone. A special nylon insert prevents tension rods from becoming loose during play.

Bass Drum Spurs
A sturdy hexagonal design and fixed angle position allow Yamaha's spurs to withstand bass drum kicks. Height adjustment and the releasing and retracting of the pointed spur are made easy with a drum key.

Mounted Toms and Floor Toms Equipped with YESS Mounts
Long found on Yamaha's high-end drum kits, the original YESS (Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System) mounting system is used on all Oak Custom toms and floor toms. This rod clamp system allows attachment of the drum to the tom holder without the need of a hole in the drum shell for the rod to pass through. The YESS clamp is attached to the shell at the nodal point with two bolts so as to allow the shell to vibrate freely without degrading the shell's dynamic range and sustain. The nodal point is the location on a shell with the least amount of vibration allowing for the mount to have minimal effect on the resonance of the shell.

Ball Clamp & Triple Tom Holder
This round ball clamp is made of super-hard resin. The ball is held firmly in place with a steel plate and large wing bolt. While providing ease of operation, this system also delivers total freedom in positioning with superior stability.

I have played this kit for a year and a half and I have to say, it's the best kit I own. The bass drum stays put, no creeping thanks to the sturdy bass drum spurs and the YESS clamps hold the toms firmly in place. Once they're tightened down, they don't move. With 6-ply shells on the toms and 7-ply on the bass drum, the sound is awesome. You can tailor the sound to what ever you want. I use Evans EC-2 heads on the toms and a Remo Powerstroke3 for the beater side of the bass drum and an Evans EMAD for the resonant side. The York Honey Amber finish gets as many compliments as the kits' sound. You could spend more for a drum set, but why bother, this kit has it all.

I've used the Yamaha Oak Custom shell pack for over a year now with absolutely no problems. The hardware is solid as a rock. When you tighten the drums down on the yess mounts, they don't move. I use Evans EC2 heads on the toms and a Remo Powerstroke 3 for the beater side of the bass drum and an Evans EMad Resonant head. The bass drum will not creep no matter what surface you're playing on. The York Honey Amber finish looks great under the stage lights and the look of the drums get as many compliments as their sound. If your serious about your sound, get the Oak Custom.

I bought the Yamaha Oak Custom shell pack about a year ago and let me tell you, I am very pleased. The fit and finish are top notch, not to mention the hardware. The Yess mounts are great and these drums do not vibrate when you tighten them down. When you tune these drums, they stay in tune. I immediately swapped the factory heads with Evans EC2's, and the bass drum with a Remo Powerstroke 3 and Evans resonant head. I play at least 2-3 gigs a week and get nothing but compliments on the sound and look of these drums. I chose the York Honey Amber color. I have been playing for 39 years and have three other kits but this is the one that always ends up at the gig.
