This kit is Xcellent and leaves the Rolands overpriced by comparison. I been drumming for over 40 years and actively play, gig and record. I currently play on both a Roland TD-20 (at a rehearsal studio) and have the DTXREME III set at home. I also have Yamaha acoustic, vintage Gretsch, and custom DW sets. I had an early Roland kit in 1989, but always preferred acoustic drums. I recognized the benefits of having an electronic kit, but was never "impressed' enough with one to shell-out the dough. Until I tried the DTXTREME IIIS. This triggers on this kit have the most natural stick response. Not just the bounce, but the way the sound trigger reproduces inflections and flicks of wrist. The cymbals have zones for the edge, bow, collar, and bell. The drum and cymbal surfaces are durable and can handle heavy play. I hit them hard and soft, and they respond nicely. The YAMAHA brain uses REAL drum sounds with great selection of play along grooves...Roland is all synthesized sounds. There are OK sets in lower price ranges, but you get what you pay for. I recommend the Yamahas for lasting value and quality.

Let me start off by saying this; If you are looking to invest in a drum set and you seriously want something that will last a while, seriously consider going electronic. The money that will be saved in maintenance was the main reason I purchased this set. Just look at cymbals alone. If you want a decent set of them, they could cost anywhere from 3-400 dollars. Not to mention they will crack sooner or later depending on your style of playing. Plus replacing drum heads... Now with all that said............. This is by far the best drum set I've ever had the chance to play (PERIOD) !! The sounds are amazing and the kit is easy to set up. Now of course there will always be those individuals that say electronic drum sets suck and the sound will never be as good as an original acoustic set but I bet if they sat at this set they would change their point of view. Yeah its a little expensive, but compared to some of roland's top e-sets, this set doesn't cost half as much. Not to mention, the quality of sounds are 10 times better than roland's =) This set has great features; a ton of practice songs in which the tempo can be fully adjusted, a great built-in metronome, and an large variety of sounds which makes the customization of your on personalized drum set fun and easy to do. I believe this set is great for all individuals- beginner to pro. So stop stalling and get it already!
