Quick-release, minimal-contact lug casings are revolutionary in design. They attach to the shell by snapping onto post anchored at the nodal point minimize contact and maximize vibration. They also make head changes faster and easier. Shell is all maple with an exterior finish of high-gloss sparkle lacquer for greater resonance and flash look. Interior finish seals shell from humidity and enhances tone. The lightweight aluminum die-cast hoops offer accurate tuning and also allow the drum to open up much like a triple-flanged hoop without the choking associated with zinc die-cast hoops. Best snare ever...

This snare has got to be the most versatile I've ever used. I've used it from being tuned low and fat for combos and big - band to high and cutting for keeping hip hop grooves. My sound engineer has the EQ flat, and I've gotten several comments from the audience members. It is incredibly musical and I will continue to use it on gigs.

The Yamaha Absolute Snare Drum combines a sharp attack and quick response with a deep, rich sound. After using the drum for the first time with the Greenville (SC) Concert Band, I was told by many of the other players how "good the percussion section sounded tonight". By replacing a low-end Pearl snare drum with the Yamaha Absolute, I made the entire section sound better? That's one great trick. The Concert Black drum looks great on stage as well. The lug design and beautiful finish make the drum visually pleasing, even to the non-percussionist.

With regard to the lug design, the pop-on style make for a great sound, but also make it difficult to even the tension when tuning. Also, the Yamaha drum heads are worth replacing. However, these are very minor short comings.

The Yamaha Absolute cannot be beat (sorry for the pun!) for sound and quality by anything else I've played in my many long years as a percussionist. It is the envy of my collegues....thanks Yamaha!

Yamaha's Absolute line is without a doubt the best value in drums today. I own a 7x14 Absolute Birch snare and would have paid double what they ask for it. Every head combination I try sounds fantastic on this drum; it's big yet sensitive, open yet focused, and has a fantastic dynamic and tonal range across the surface of the head. Whenever I am in the studio this is the first snare I reach for and nearly always the last.
