Back, with Cymbals (not included) Toms Kick Drum Hardware Mounting Brackets Rack Tubes

The A400 from Traps Drums is a portable drum kit that feels and sounds like a regular drum kit. The drums are constructed from high-quality, durable A.B.S. and are fitted with Remo heads, steel counter hoops, and are tuned with the traditional multi-screw tuning system. This also allows the use of pads for silent practicing. The rack system that the drums and hardware fit to is made from substantial steel tubing which means that everything stays exactly where it's put when the kit is set up and doesn't move.

Geoff Nicholls of Rhythm Magazine asked in 2005: "Can a shell-less kit ever stand in for the real thing?" He concluded: "Shell-less kits are a viable alternative and Traps A400 is easily the best so far."

Rack system
The A400 rack-mounting system is made from sturdy large-diameter chromed steel tubing. The kit can easily be set up for either left- or right-handed players using the supplied tough ABS multifunctional joints.

When set up, the rack is very strong and, once fitted with the supplied four large rubber feet, stays where it's placed and doesn't move. This provides a noticeable improvement in playability compared to other portable drum sets in this price bracket.

Top Quality Hardware
The A400 comes fitted with quality hardware as standard. This includes hi-hat and kick drum pedals that are both rugged and free moving. Also included is a snare basket, boom cymbal arms (which can be slid into the frame for easy storage).

The hardware is both reliable and distinctive with black-painted footplates and a "Traps" embossed seat squab. They also feature quality chain drives, memory locks, expansion springs and clutches.

12" snare drum
The A400 12" snare drum has a very crisp sound as a result of the high-quality ABS molding combined with the chrome-plated steel counter hoops, Remo Ambassador heads, and 8 square-headed tension screws. This all results in a snare that's easy to tune and capable of cutting rim shots and thick X-stick sounds. The drum also features a sturdy throw-off with a positive feel and a knob at the opposite side of the drum for adjusting the stretch in the snares. This means that the A400 snare has the additional ability to produce Latin/world percussion sounds or to function as an additional tom.

10", 12", and 14" toms
The A400 toms are manufactured from a tough ABS molding which is further strengthened by a triple-flange counter hoop, then to complete the toms, they are fitted with top-quality Remo Pinstripe heads. As with all the A400 drums, an industry-standard multi-screw tuning system is used.

All this attention to detail results in a quality sound never before heard in a portable kit.

20" kick drum
The A400 20" kick drum is an uncompromising double-headed design fitted with a UT Powerstroke 3 drumhead on the back and Remo Ebony drumhead on the front printed with the Traps logo. It is also fitted with chrome-plated steel hoops.

Its shell is made from a robust high-quality injection-molded A.B.S. fitted with custom dual-mounting points ideally suited to mounting in the A400 rack mount system. A strong metal plate is fitted to bottom of the rear counter hoop so that when the kick pedal is fitted, the beater strikes the head at the optimum position-top of the upstroke.

Cymbals not included.

They have their place

If you are tight for space you might like these. They set-up fast too. Volume-wise, I would say is 80 to 90% of a shell kit. You`ll save on stands for sure. The downside is that when you remove the shell from a drum, you lose the beefy tone and quality that shells bring. It you are not fussy, you can do fine with these. I`m fussy and so are my band mates. They are good for band practice but would need some processing from mics or triggers. Note that a ddrum trigger will not work on this snare. A Roland will work. It`s because the rim plate is too large. The hi hat stand is fine, but the kick pedal is not long enough for my foot [size 11]. Don`t get the cymbals of course. I made an error in judgement in getting these, but I`m going to use the rack, snare and hi hat stand. The snare is fine. P.S. the drums sound flappy without shells and lack depth of tone. For me, it was a mistake getting these but I can see where some people would be OK with them.

Traps drums, a versatile tool

I use the Traps drums when space is limited or the load in is a bear. Good quality, expecally the rack. If you know what you're doing , they can sound pretty good out of the box. If you know how to tweak and tune, they can sound really good. Rack is compatable with Gibraltar if you want to add cymbals, etc. Great customer service from the distributor. A great addition to my percussion arsenal.

Compact Kit

When I saw a band play in a really small bar and the drummer had this kit tucked up in a corner and didn't take up any space, I was blown away! They sounded like drums. The only way to take up less space is to stand up. That's the real reason why I bought this kit. And no, don't expect these to outperform drums with shells. But if your looking for something different and space saving, here you go! Remember, you can always mic up, EQ and even trigger this kit to sound like whatever you want. Just like anything else.

This is a really nice drum set for beginners and intermediates. The snare has a nice sharp crack, but the toms ring a bit too much and the floor tom resists good sound no matter how hard i tune it. The cymbals bend after about 6 months. And it is really hard to build on the kit, but perfect for beginners. All in all, an okay set

I have it. Used it at gigs. I replaced the snare. Cymbals. The built in cymbal stands offer limited options regarding placement. Kick sounds pretty bad miked. I use a metal beater pad and a piece of duck tape near the rim and it's ok live. It's fine naked at practice. It sounds remarkable. The hardware is pretty tough. On and off the stage so quick you'll never go back
