The Tama Superstar series Custom SK Hyper-Drive 6-PIece Shell Pack is all about the sound. Tama Superstar drum shells are birch with basswood inner plies. This combination provides strong projection, aggressive, open sound, and great consistency. Precisely cut bearing edges and zinc die-cast hoops bring out the great response and powerful resonance. For perfect tone the kick drums are made with 7 - 7mm wood plies, while the toms and snare use 6 - 6mm plies..

No other drum embodies pro features at an affordable price like Superstar. In a first for this price range, Superstar is equipped with the same zinc die-cast hoops featured on Starclassic drums. Die-cast hoops not only make tuning easier and more consistent, they also provide crisp attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.

All Superstar rack toms are fitted with the same Star-Cast Mounting System as Starclassic drums. This unique system offers total tom isolation and unhindered shell resonance without the adverse effect on tuning or complicated head changes found in less advanced suspension designs.

The Sound Bridge high-tension, low-mass lug was specifically designed for Superstar. Sound Bridge's unique structure looks much like a traditional high-tension lug, but the body of the lug "floats" over the shell to minimize shell contact so the drum can resonate to its fullest. However, Sound Bridge still offers all the benefits of the traditional high-tension lug: it offsets the tension of the batter side and bottom side heads, reduces the stress on the shell, and provides greater protection to the drum shell during transport.

All Superstar "Power Craft" drum heads ensure a great sound practically right out of the box. Batter-side heads are made of Dupont Mylar film for richer tone and greater durability. Ring mufflers on bass drum heads remove the need for extra internal muffling.

This kit is BY FAR the most quality, value, & pro-level features you can buy for less than a grand. Tama raised the bar on this Superstar series for sure. The black nickel hardware is stunning, the pictures can't begin to do it justice, must be seen to believe. The Brushed Metallic Black finish is flawless & completely unique. It looks similar to an anodized aluminum... with shades of dark blood red and forest green glimmering through when the light refracts from different angles. Again... must be seen to be appreciated. All the bearing edges were perfectly cut & smooth and the construction is rock solid.

The only thing better than how they look... is how they sound! The powercraft heads sound pretty good on the floor toms, but way too thin to produce rich tones from the mounted toms. I am using Evans hydraulic batter sides on all 4 toms and the sound is fat & robust, but with a VERY fast attack & perfectly balanced resonance & decay. The snare is nothing to write home about in the sound department (as with most low-mid price range Tama snare drums I've encountered)but again... the look is amazing!.

I just purchased this tama kit and it is awesome. first off the finish looks real cool with the black hardware. second setting up the drums i find the toms are very versitile and can be placed almost anywhere! the ball joint tom mount is amazing. the shallow toms allow for the rack toms to be placed low like i like. then finally the sound. The drums have alot of attack, and for short toms, good sustain. they are very loud and project right over amps, almost dont need to mic em! the bass drum is the real treat though, very deep and has a wonderful sound to it. for the money this is a great set.

A good friend of mine purchased this kit in Wisconsin at a much higher price this. I am 52-years-old and have played and owned many vintage drums over the years and, for the money, I've not come across a more punchy and tunable kit! They are as solid as a rock in terms of hardware and general feel! There is nothing that suggests a budget-priced drum set and the fit and finish is flawless! When I can afford to buy a second kit to compliment my ancient Slingerlands, this will be the kit and I'll purchase them here! Worth every penny for the value that you get!!!
