I just got this snare and it is truly amazing. Once you tune it right, it sounds so great. I've benn playing a "14x6 Spaun maple snare, it's also a great snare, but this snare blows it away by a long shot. It's the best sounding snare I've ever beaten on. Thank you Mike Portnoy and Tama for this amazing snare!

This is a great snare drum once you get the tuning right. I had a little problem with "buzzing" at first, but I found the proper combination between the batter and side and now it sounds amazing. The only other downside to this product is if you play on Evans heads, it may be a little difficult to find a 12" snare head for it. All in all, great snare drum and worth the money.

When I was playing at a gig, my drum tech who went to Berkley with Mike suggested that I buy this snare. I followed his advice, and now own an amzing snare. The Mike Portnoy melody master is one of the best snares that i have ever played. It has so much attack, and its perfect for any style of music! If you put the snares on the loose setting its perfect for shuffles. It even sounds great when its in it's tenor setting. A BIG bang for your buck. Hats off to Mike Portnoy for not only the being an amazing drummer, but for coming up with an amazing snare drum.

Absolutely an amazing snare. I especially love the dual snare settings on it. I'm very OCD (much like Portnoy himself), and I hate mixing different companies, but this snare is different; incredible enough to allow me to stray from Pearl. It takes some tinkering to find the right sound, but after you do, it is simply fantastic.
