I've played many kits over the years - Ludwig, Tama, Pearl, even DW.
I've owned 3 Sonor kits previous to this one and I'd have to say that they sound better than my old phonic kit (still have the kick and floor tom), the 3003 basswood kit (never really liked them), but the 2007's are extremely close to the sound of my Sonor Lite's (Scandinavian birch).
I tried a maple shell with DW's but got rid of them pretty quick, (they tended to bark in my opinion).
Ludwig, Tama and pearl never did it for me, constantly going out of tune. So for me I'm back to Sonor's with the satisfaction I'd had years agao.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS KIT, in any way shape or form.
After you blow thru the stock heads and slap some G2's on top, G's on the bottom and the industry standard, Emad on the kick - lookout!!!!!
I also added a 16" floor tom and a 22" kick to complete the full range for any genre of music, any stage/venue and recording studio.
I haven't recorded with them yet but I'll post when the first tracks are complete.

Sonors have a very good sound and the quality of these drums are outstanding. I have played many different drums in my time and Sonor has the sound that I have been looking for for a long time. The birch construction gives these drums a powerfull and rich sound. The price of these drums are very affordable and the quality is undeniable. If you want a drum kit that has it all I recommend Sonor Drums

I own the Sonor 2007 Stage 1 kit that I had won in a contest threw Modern Drummer Magazine and they sound as good as they look. The kit came with an additional bass kick drum and a 16 x 16 floor tom. Came with a Gibraltor Rack System for a db bass and Soul Tone Cymbals, is a great deal because they were free. I also own a Pearl 8 pc. Export kit with Paiste Cymbals but the Sonor kit sounds much deeper and crisp. Sonor kit is for gigging and the black finish looks awsome under lights.

My first purchase with MF. I was nervous but I am glad I did it. The drums are awesome. Everthing looks and sounds great. The bass drum requires some muffling but what do you expect from a bass drum. I tightened the snare, too. Great kit!

I have had my Sonor Force 2007 Studio 1 Shell Pack for over 2 months now and I highly recommend it as an intermediate kit that will pleasantly surprise your auditory and visual senses! I bought the blue fade kit and the finish is beautiful. The smaller sized bass drum (20")and toms will impress with their attack and punchiness. You'll probably want to put new heads on soon to optimize their sound, I'm using Remo Powerstroke IIIs for batter tom heads, Remo Black Suede Ambassadors for resonant tom heads, and an Aquarian clear Force I on the batter side of the bass drum. These head changes maximized the high middle and middle frequencies that Birch is known for. Do not be dissuaded by the smaller sized drums, these birch shells project with volume and cut through, they work fine in both my jazz/fusion and classic rock bands. The snare drum will need a little work to reach its potential, such as new heads top and bottom, and a new snare strand such as a Puresound or Pearl. Once you make these minor alterations, and tune it up high, it really responds with a nice snap and has good sensitivity. These Sonor Force 2007 Studio 1 drums are comparable to my Tama Superstars and Yamaha Advanced Stage Customs that emphasize birch in the shell. If the deal wasn't sweet enough, you also get the 2 free boom stands. If you're looking for an eye-catching kit with great attack and good craftsmanship at a mid-level price, buy this Sonor! You won't be disappointed.
