I just bought the Sabian HHX Evolution 14" Hi-Hats today and absolutely love them. While at first glance they may look spending they are definitely worth the purchase. I compared them to many other hats from Sabian as well as Zildjian and they simply rose to the top. I would say this is a perfect set for someone who is looking for a darker sound in their hats.

I've owned the 14's since the line was introduced (6 years ago?). I love the sensitivity and the range of tones I can get from them without having to wail on them.

This hi hat is the cleanest, fattest, dark sounding and bright all at the same time, that I have ever heard. I had gone through about ten hi hats trying to find one that I liked. I almost bought the HHX Groove hats, but just didnt get the fat 'chick' out of them that I wanted. I went into a shop and they told me that if I liked the sound of the HHX series, that the evolutions would blow me away. Well a year later, it seems they were right. I play pretty much every style of music (except rap) and they blend when they should, and cut when it should. GREAT JOB SABIAN!!!!

When I bought these, I'd been listening a lot to the "In Memphis" album by Dusty Springfield and was really in love with Gene Chrisman's cymbal sound. These certainly have the fatness and dark tone of vintage studio hats, but also the simmer and sustain of more modern, computer-designed cymbals. I use them on everything I play, from post-punk to bop, and they sound great at all times and dynamics. You might never need another pair.

These are the nicest sounding, most versatile hi-hats on the market. I have the 14" hats and honestly, I will never buy any other hi-hats for as long as I live. I like my hats to not have such a high-pitced, tinny sound when played open and this hi-hat is perfect for my taste. Nice and crisp, not so bright but still projects. Honestly, do yourself a favor and buy these things right now, they are completely worth the price.
