I just purchased the 18 inch and am in love, as described it sounds great when tapped with a finger or smashed with a stick. It is extremely loud so wear ear protection but it is worth it. Very bright sound and great for rock/metal. Not really for use in lighter music as it will drown out the rest of your kit but perfect for heavier styles. I also own a z custom rock and this sounds so much better than it, much brighter, however z customs are also good to mix as they are slightly darker and more tonal than this ear splitting crash. GREAT CYMBAL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I respect Sabian as a quality cymbal crafting company. I do not think the AAX metal crash is one of their best cymbals, but it is still well crafted. The cymbal is not really good for regular crash use, but does do well for extreme accents and things like that. Don't buy this cymbal expecting to make it your main crash, it is too overpowering and heavy for constant hitting. Good for heavy rock I suppose, but still really to overbearing for constant use.

I have had this cymbal in a 16" and 18" for about 3 months, and I have not found them beneficial to me in any other way than something to hit with a stick. I decided to purchase these cymbals after hearing how sweet and powerful they sounded from the projections of Silverchair; much to my dismay, they sound like "pot" metal. I do not like the way they sound in any fashion, but I do look better with a quality brand and model cymbal.

Similar to an explosion...

I purchased a 20" Metal Crash about 6 months ago and to this day, I still think that it sounds great. The cymbal is really heavy and when struck just right, it explodes with color and brightness. It has a nice bell and it also rings out longer than most cymbals. The cymbal gives off a nice dry ping when used for riding. My advice would be to put this cymbal on the far right of your kit and use it for finales, perhaps after a fill or something, to put it into full effect. The cymbal will sound weird at first but give it time to grow on you. Sabian ROCKS!
