I purchased this with a kd-8 bass pad- and fd-8 hihat and an additional pd-8 dual zone pad(for the snare). I expected that this setup would allow me to be very compact but with quality sounds.however i realized that the stock sound were absolute crap.there were absolutely no realistic acoustic sounds.almost every patch was dedicated some heavy metal kit,hip-hop,r&b and ethnic sounds. All the regular drum sounds are either to exaggerated or to disco sounding. I am contemplating getting yamaha dtxpress or dtxtreme module since yamaha concentrates mostly on acoustic sounds and not synth effects. enough with software though.I think the usability of the pad system and menu were quite good. however assigning pads can very difficult because of the annoying crosstalk issues it suffers with. Good value but if you can ,try to get the roland td-3 , hd-1 or an yamaha dtxpress.

This is hands down the best sounding and most flexible option for adding electronic percussion to your setup. The sounds are the same ones found on the other high end Roland brains. I use it mostly for the vintage analog sounds (TR909, 808, CR78, etc.) and they as sound close to the real thing as it gets. It is also very easy to create unique sounds from ordinary instruments by tweaking the pitch, adding effects, and layering sounds together. I use it mainly with my acoustic drums and external pads, but it is also great for adding more sounds to a drum machine or sequencer via MIDI.

This unit has good sounds. The pads aren't great, but better than anything else like it. If you are thinking of using this in place of an acoustic kit - you'll need external pads for bass drum, snare and hi-hat - and a hi-hat controller. I am using a Drum Kat Hi-Hat controller that works great with this unit. I have a Yamaha bass drum pad (not as good as Roland's KD-85 or KD-120). I use a PD-105 as a snare drum and it is awesome with this unit - very expressive and very responsive.

It's never going to replace a real acoustic kit, but it's nice for practice, very small rooms, etc.

I had a Yamaha DD-55 for practice sessions: It is GARBAGE - don't buy it - it's worse than a toy! The Roland SPD-20 has been great for practice sessions. (I can't bring my kit to practice - not enough room and too loud.)

I bought this pad as an add on to my acoustic kit. I am so glad I bought it! It has definitely opened up so much more possibilities and allows to be a much more creative drummer. It has definitely brought my band to new heights as well. The possibilities are endless!

I Also have an ALESIS DM-PRO (which is also GREAT !)I have used both for live gigs, recording/ studio etc.. I won't be giving this thing up anytime !!! ! Highly recommended gear. Easy to play, dependable, and Oh the great sounds YOU will produce ! ReLaYeR :-)
