I've had my vdrums for about 1 1/2 years. I have the same setup as the td-9 kits only with a td-6v module. With the td-6v you don't get very accurate triggering. Open and closed work well, but half-open sounds are hard to keep steady. I also found out the internal guides for the up and down movement of the pedal are made from thin plastic. With certain foot techniques I get some side to side play with the pedal. I managed to break one of the guides and I don't even play hard.

Not much is changing in the drum triggers of electronic drums these days. I have learned a lot about electronic drums and triggers since I bought this kit. Roland needs to at least make their products more affordable if they are not going to build them to last. Construct it out of metal!

If you want a honest, solid review of this item; read on. I got this FD-8 pedal a month ago to replace my older FD-7 that I had for 12 years. I've been playing Roland drums exclusively for 12 years now. I'm not bragging, I just know what I'm talking about when it comes to Roland electronic drums. I've used them all over the country, in live, studio, recording and rehearsal situations. I took the new FD-8 apart to check out the internal components - exactly the same electronic components as in the older FD-7. I know I only had this one for a month, but if the internal circuit is the same as my old FD-7 it should last just as long, and my original FD-7 lasted me 12 solid years with out a problem! In the past 2 months the old pedal started to send a 'open' signal even when the pedal was pressed down in the 'closed' position. The (new) FD-8 is everything you would expect from Roland: top notch quality, great sensitivity, the new design is more rounded, and lighter in weight than its predecessor. Because its internal electronic components are the same as in the FD-7, you should get MANY years of great performance out of your FD-8. My 12 years of non-stop use are proof. Action is smooth and precise, accurate recreation of all positions between full open and closed positions (however that has allot to do with your sound module too). This is a good quality Roland product, and the cost is rather low compared to other manufactures prices.

Solid, smooth, and responsive. Best electronic Hi Hat pedal you can buy when upgrading or piecing together a kit. I swapped out my old pedal with this one and left the trigger as is. I can't quite capture how awesome it was from the first note! Only time will tell if I'm still as pleased after a few years but hey, I'm good to go for now!

It's alright for a little while, but the interface for the one at my church fizzed out after about 3 years. If you're just looking for something you can hook up then play right away, this is perfect. If you want something that will last, ACOUSTIC KITS RULE!!!
