I actually own a slightly different one than the models listed here, same maple shell, but it's in Pork Pie's Gold Sparkle wrap. About 4 years ago, I was looking for a 12" auxillary snare that had a lot of bite. I happened upon this wonderful snare by accident and it took me completely by surprise! Not only does it have a wonderful snap, but also works very well when tuned lower as a very full-bodied dry (due to the 12" diameter) maple snare. Not to mention that the bearing edges on every Pork Pie drum are exquisite. Bill Detamore really does an excellent job. I hope to own many more Pork Pie snares in the future!

The first time I hit one of these snares with a stick, was the last time I looked for a snare drum. Beautiful wood and great looking chrome curves are all nice and proper, but this snare is about sound and it delivers. It's got a fast pop that can be lengthened with minor bottom head adjustment. Without the snare wire on you can play the first hits off Bob Marley's Jammin and it sounds dead-on. I have an old school Rodgers drum set, and the Pork Pie works perfectly. I have it top and bottom mic'd with a pair of Shure SM57s and the recorded sound is better then any of the other equipment I've used. I use it for punk and hard rock music, but the comparison I've heard used most often is that it's got the (I'm quoting people here) "Pop-Twang from the band 311's snare drum" I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique sound that turns heads.

This snare is off the chain I own both the 5x13 and the 5x12. I like the black 5x12 better but the both have pretty much the same sound. I recommend this snare to any one who is looking for a crisp, tonable, versatile, and reliable snare. You won't be disappointed I promise.

I actually OWNED them but not anymore because I broke it and then put gasoline on it and then burned it to death. It was a total waste of money and I highly advise you not to buy it. I don't want to see your money go to waste. Although when I burned it on the fire I tasted it and it tasted a bit like pork pie. I wonder if that's why they called it that!
