I also found that this device didn't trigger very reliably. I felt that the piezo element was not coupled with the housing as well as it should be.

So I opened it up, and stuck a piece of plastic (a small drywall screw anchor) through the foam so it would touch both the piezo element and the outer housing at the same time. Beware: I'm sure this kind of modification will void your warranty.

But since that modification, it has worked extremely well with my DrumKat EZ. I couldn't be happier.

Tt does have to be hit hard, I tried it with my DM5 and it doesn't pick up half the beats when played by itself...and even less than half when playing other drums with it. But I guess for the price, I really shouldn't complain but I really would like to play my drums again soon.

Some people say you have to hit it hard... well, playing live with acoustics, guess what? Yeah, so in that sense it's a great trainer. Super solid, disgustingly compact, no creeping, no wobbles. I've had it over a year now, and did notice a flaw, a major flaw, but an easily dealt with problem. The pedal clamps directly to the housing, and the whole housing really is a trigger. So, my when my pedal returned to ready position, and when my foot came back from being airborne to strike again, vibrations traveled through the pedal clamp into the housing/trigger sometimes causing false strikes. Solved on my first try. Taking a rectangle of 1/2" thick felt (automotive engine-compartment sound dampening material) I folded it around the top and bottom of the clamp surface, insulating it from the pedal's clamp. Problem solved, I love it. I don't see upgrading it any time soon, nothing's as compact as this one. (Though, many are a lot more expensive.) It's a keeper. It's so tough I never have to hold back. When aliens come to dig up our ruined civilization, they'll find this trigger unit, and it'll still work. =)

First of all, This product is unbreakable. High Quality parts. However, hitting it with a bass pedal is like hitting steel, and can give you ankle pains. Also when used with a Roland.
