This Pearl VBX905 5-Piece Drum Set is based on the original Vision drum formula. It features blended birch shells with variable 6/8-ply shell technology. Lower frequencies require greater energy to match the high frequencies and projection produced by smaller drums. Vision's combination of 6-ply rack toms and 8-ply floor toms and bass drums address this problem by delivering dynamically balanced sound.

Every component in your drum kit is optimized to respond to its full potential within its frequency range. This is achieved through the use of premium wood composition and shell thickness via strategic variance in the type and amount of plies. This sonically advanced recipe of strategically arranged plies of premium wood maximizes frequency response in every component. As with all Pearl drums, each shell is formed with Pearl's legendary SST construction process using extreme heat, precision-cut scarf joints, Pearl's proprietary Acoustiglue, and over 1000 lbs of hydraulic pressure to create the ultimate acoustic air chamber.

The hardware is of excellent quality. Highly polished and well designed double bracing on the legs of all stands. Nice nylon spacers allow for smooth and quiet folding of legs. Heavy duty and very secure. The hi hat stand and bass pedal work smoothly. The tone of the tom toms are full and round. The shells resonate freely making the tone warm and extended. Because of the two ply heads, they tune up easily. I recorded them and the sound was wonderful to listen to. I thought I was playing and enjoying a much more expensive kit. I have the clear birch kit and the wood and shells are gorgeous. The guys in the band love it and really have noticed a big difference in sound quality over my previous Sonor Birch kit. The toms can be played loud also. The bass drum is solid and requires little muffling to control it's overtones. I seriously looked at other brands and the only kit that comes close is the Tama Superstar. I didn't care for the finish though and the hardware isn't quite as good as Pearl's. In my opinion. If this Vision kit didn't exist, the Tama's would have been by next choice. Good value is important for me as I was on a definite budget. I owned it for about one year and then had an opportunity recently to trade up to Pearl's Master Custom. I got a real sweet deal - couldn't refuse.

I got this set the other day and it has got to be one of the best sounding sets I've ever heard. The main reason I got it was for the birch shells, the fusion sizes, and the sweet looking concord fade. The features on the kit are great, such as the millions of positions you can set the toms in. The set is very heavy duty and, once you set everything up, it's as solid as a rock. The hardware that's included is nice and solid also. In the long run, the whole thing is worth the price.
