Pearl's 60 years of acoustic research has proven that the interior plies of the shell are the key influence to the overall sonic characteristic of the drum. Vision Series exploits this knowledge to the fullest by using two unique shell recipes of birch and basswood. Birch offers a resilient tightly bound network of cells that tend to accelerate rebounding sound waves making it perfect where mid-range to high frequencies are desired. Basswood provides a slightly softer cellulose composition which tends to slow the sound waves, thus promoting mid-range to low-frequency response. By adjusting the overall balance of one ingredient to the other allows a fine-tuning of frequency response much like Pearl's Reference Series.

Optimized Shell Configuration The fundamental thought behind Pearl's Award-winning Reference Series was to optimize every component of your kit to respond to its full potential within the confines of its respective frequency range. This was achieved through the usage of premium wood composition and shell thickness via strategic variance in the type and amount of plies. SST Shell Design Vision Series offers a sonically advanced recipe of strategically arranged plies of premium wood to maximize frequency response in every component. As with all Pearl drums, each shell is formed from Pearl's SST construction process that uses extreme heat, precision-cut scarf joints, Pearl's proprietary Acoustiglue, and over 1000lbs of hydraulic pressure to create the ultimate acoustic air chamber. I've been drumming for about 7 years now but this is the first set I've actually owned myself, and it sounds as good as any set I've tried. stock heads were decent but the side heads were crap, but that is to be expected. So I bought some Evans EC2 clear for my tom's and put the pearl protone heads on the bottom and they sound fantastic. Also, once I got some nice Evans heads on the snare it sounded fantastic, I think I may have found the PERFECT sounding snare. Great Set. Great Price.

I bought these about one week ago and slapped some Evans EC2 heads on them, I'm just not one to use stock ones even though they arent bad. These drums are great and come with an awesome sound. The shells are beautiful and clean. The sound is cutting but very supportive if you catch my drift. This is an amazing deal and the mounts are VERY strong and sturdy and the I.S.S. tom mounts are a great innovation! You will not be disappointed at all!!!

Ive had this set for almost a year and it sounds amazing. When I play live shows people always come up to me and compliment on how GOOD my set sounds and how it projects such good sound and tone. The heads that came with it are decent so I slapped on a super kick II on my bass and Evans ec2 tom heads and a Evans genera hd2 dry on my snare and I'm practically going deaf cause that snare is super loud. This drum set is amazing and you should buy it!!!!!
