I really like this snare. It would be hard to beat for the money. It has a great sound, nice and snappy. I`m using it as a side snare for special effects. It does have that timbale sound with the snares off or loosened. I`m using it loosened as a contrast to my main snare. It can double as an addition into tom fills. I`m thrilled with it. The only word of advice is this; replace the stock head immediately with a decent head. Save the stock head as a back-up snare-side head. Don`t hit it! I tuned the snare to perfection using the drum dial tuner, mounted the snare, and I kid you not...I made one hit and put my stick right through it. I`m not even a hard hitter! Haven`t busted a head in years, if ever. Other than that minor thing, I definitely recommend it for the price.

I bought this snare about 3 months ago as a side snare for my kit. With the snares off, this thing sounds AMAZING. Easily the most attractive and best sounding side-snare out there! Only issue I've had is that when I hit a lot of rim-shots on it, the lugs closest to impact tend to loosen a little, but not enough to affect playability. The stock batter head wasn't that great, but I put a REMO SUEDE on there and it's perfect. I love this snare and would HIGHLY recommend it.

I haven't replaced the heads yet, but with 2 moongels on, it sounds great. The throw-off could use a little lubricant, aside from that no complaints. Great little drum; at this price you should buy it NOW before it gets more costly.
