If you are a intermediate level player and are willing to mess with this set a bit, it has good potential. It doesn't sound good out of the box though, so if you want this less expensive set to sound nice you have to obviously replace the heads and dampen the toms (they have too many overtones for me). The snare is the weakest part of this set, so I replaced mine with a Pork Pie. Other than this, the hardware is fairly sturdy and the overall quality seems to be high. For the price, it is a pretty good investment if you don't mind spending a little extra to bring it to its full potential.

I have owned this set for a year now and it is great. I love the sound of all the toms and the hardware is great. The factory heads are pretty cheap and you should go buy some remos or evans heads along with it. This is a great set and I recommend it to anyone at an intermidiate level.

this set is awesome! i bought it about four months ago and i fall more and more in love with it every day. i would have to say that for the price, this is one of the best sets you could buy if you're starting out, or even if you've been playing for a while. the hardware on this set is unbelievable, but you never expect any less from Pearl. the bass pedal has to be my favorite peice though. it has the double sided mallet for louder or more quiet play, adjustable footboard for harder or softer types of music, depending on how far back you like the mallet to go. and the chain hasn't fallen off on me once, unlike other sets i've owned. everything about Pearl hardware is awesome, even down to the felts on the cymbal stands. one bad thing i have to say about this set is the heads that come with it. they don't last very long, but that's always the case with a complete set, you gotta cuztomize to get it soundin' great. overall, i love this drum set so much, and would highly recommend it to any intermediate level drummer on a budget.

I've have owned this kit for about 6 years and it is a great set the toms sound pretty good they have good sound put they do get drouwned out by the music the snare to, but still nice. And the bass sounds awsome put a evens emad on it and it will sound amazing.I would recommend it to any begginner-inntermidate rock style drummer.However I am looking to upgrade put it will be hard to beat even with a more expensive set.

I had a set of these for 5 years. You can't control tom position very well because it isn't ball and socket like most other good drums. No matter how I tuned them they still sounded dead and this was with some Evans heads on them. For a drum set in this price range I highly recommend the Mapex M birch. They are worthy of a live show and I would never use my old exports on stage. These drums are feeding off the PEARL name!
