I'd been playing a low-budget Paiste 201 hat and griping on the non-musical sound. This is a REAL hi-hat! Everything sounds solid, from tightly closed to wide open hitting, to in-between. My band plays everything from hard rock to country, and this hat has a nice, defined, versatile sound. I've simply had a real good time playing drums since I bought this set. I dunno, they just ring and catch eveyone's attention.

When I got these hats I was honestly expecting worse but all in all not a bad set of hats. They deffinatly sound better closed, when you play them open they don't have that nice sizzle you get with more expensive high hats. If you don't have money like me and you need some new high hats check these out.

I purchased the PST 5 Rock hats to upgrade from the Pulse Pro hats that can with my set and I really liked them (compared to the Pulse Pro ones), but I wanted to see what an inexpensive professional hat sounded like compared to them (you can listen online at Paiste.com but it's not the same as hearing them right in front of you with the acoustics of wherever you play). These Alpha Rock Hats simply are amazing. I immediately removed my PST 5's from the stand (put them onto an X Hat, cause they still sounded 100% better than the Pulse Pros) and mounted the Alphas. They have a great CHICK when you close them, they sizzle when you open them part way, and the sound they make closed is penetrating. If you are an amateur with amateur sound and want to get professional sound or you are looking for a good, inexpensive replacement hat, the Alphas are for you. Since most drummers spend 80%-90% of their time hitting the hats and the snare, those components should sound good and if you are trying to achieve a good amount of musical hat playing, these will raise your game. I simply love them (and the entire Alpha line)
