My older brother got this kit back in 2000-2001 and boy is it amazing. Anyone who buys this new is unlucky because they replaced the original snare with a cheap metal one. The original snare was an all maple shell and it is GODLY. You can definately see the DW/Pacific resembleance here. Put nice heads on this, oil up the lugs and you have an amazing drumset rivaling almost any other drumset. PERIOD. :-P

I have owned these drums for 3 years, they sound great with new heads and are very road worthy. Also, people who talk about the lugs getting stuck, that happens to all drums. (you need to maintain them) If you oil the tension rods after every head change will not have a problem. In conclusion, you will not find better drums for this price at all, they are very tough and they look great.

Pros- Good looks, tough, sounds great. What more do you want?

Cons- The wrap does have visible seams in it, but who cares.

I got the red sparkle CX kit and I love it. There are only a few complaints that i can think of, such as the 22 in bass drum (not that big of a deal, I just wish it was a 20), the snare, and the tom mount. First, I'd like to say that the toms sound great if tuned well. Secondly, the wrap is gorgeous. Thirdly, the bass drum sounds good, though I imagine it would sound better with an EMAD 2 or something. the downsides are that the snare is nearly impossible to tune, which is not an issue for me because I have a Pearl Omar Hakim sig snare and a Pork Pie snare. The tom mount for the rack toms can be difficult to position, so I have taken to mounting the toms on a rack or on separate mounts. A great kit at a great price

I had this set for four years (my first kit). It has a very nice sound when it's tuned well, but it comes out of tune fairly quickly. After having it for about 3 and a half years, the lugs started to get stuck and tuning becomes virtually impossible. It was worth the deal I got on it. Oh, and the snare sucks; it's probably one of the worst snare drums I have ever played. On the other hand, the bass drum with an EMAD head is the best bass sound I have ever heard.

I have owned this kit for four years now and it sounds as good as when I bought it. Toms have good tone and sharp attack. Bass drum is punchy when tuned correctly(I prefer no muffling for a bigger sound). I have never played the snare that came with the kit due the fact I had have other snares and a tuning lug broke on mine when I tried to remove a tension rod. Overall, this is a great drumset if your looking for high quality under $1000. In my experience 2-ply heads work best with these drums due to a relatively thick 8-ply shell. Also, upgrading hoops to 2.3mm or die-cast is good for better tuning consistency. Pros: Great kit for under $1000, 800 series cymbal stands are one of the best-kept secrets in the drum industry, maple shells, fusion-sized toms are great for quick fills, little brother to DW. Cons: I cracked a tuning lug on the snare when I tried to remove a tension rod for a head-chage, lightweight counter hoops, covered finish can warp in different temps(Not PDP's fault, wraps will do that on any kit).
