As a percussion enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for interesting knoisemakers that can easily be amplified, so I picked this up. There's not really much to it. you can occlude the hole with your thumb for a "normal" shaker sound, or uncover the hole for a crispser "thwack" during one of the strokes.

save your money - get an egg shaker the sound is much better & smoother....and I feel it is just as versitile.
