This looks like a really nice drum but the materials used to make it do not produce any usable sounds. The Udu, which it pretends to copy, is made of fired clay. The Ibo is like playing the box that a real Udu came in. All these Udu wannabes, including ones made of clay but with small drum heads on them, do not create the air compression needed to get an authentic clay drum sound. I have seriously gotten nice sounds out of clay pots and vases at home improvement stores and imprt stores, but not out of these poor copies of clay drums. Save yourself the disappointment and expense. Get a real Claytone Udu, or play a real clay drum at a store and decide for yourself. They're a delight to play when you get the right one.

These drums are based on Udu drums, mainly the Claytone Udu drums, which are wonderful. But the similarity is in appearance only. The use of materials like fiberglass or wood will yield almost no sound at all, and certainly nothing of the resonant, pottery and tabla-like sounds of real Udu drums. Stay away from any of these spin-off drums made of useless materials. I have a couple clay Udu drums from different manufacturers and they're really fun to play. These fiberglass ones will only disappoint, as will any made from wood. Play them before buying, otherwise save yourself the time and shipping.

I purchased this ibo just as an experiment to see what exactly an ibo is. Once I pulled it out of the well packaged box, I was truly amazed at how well made it was with no visible seams on the outside of the fiberglass. After playing around with it for a few weeks I finally got the hang of using the ibo. I am still astonished with the sounds that can be produced from any part of the drum. If you are considering purchasing one of these and aren't sure about it, I would strongly recommend doing so. By far, it is one of the most unique musical instruments I have ever player. This is a must buy!
