The Generation X cymbal has explosive attack and is ideal for bigger accents due to a great response. When played with lighter sticks, it turns into a sweet and jazzy-sounding ride cymbal with little wash.

Meinl's Generation X Series offers a full range of special effect sounds previously not available. Years of input have led to the FX9 alloy and the unique shapes and configurations. A Really Dull Sound
Posted by RagonXE from Jackson, MS on Jan 27, 2009
Experience w/product: I own it

Reviewer's Play Style: a little bit of everything, but mainly rock
This cymbal did everything I did not want it to do. It has no attack when used as a crash. It is very washy and dull, and hums forever with overtones. When used as a ride, the ping does not cut and the overtones all blur together after about four consecutive hits. The only thing I could use this for is to paint it and use it for a Spartan costume shield. Although I own and love my Meinl Generation-X filter china, this was a huge disappointment.

Meinl Rocks!

This cymbal is an enigma. The sound is shimmering and jazzy depending on stick choice. I prefer nylon tips, wood will produce a slightly different variation of sound. Upon attack, this plate emits a ferocious, gong like wash, short sustain. If you play on the bell, (pinging is minimal) this cymbal isnt for you. It has a very small pimple of a bell. This cymbal truely fits in your mix where others dont. It is unique. It is VERY attractive. Silver with a little accent/etching (kind of like a cowboy belt buckle!). I continue to experiment with different points for set up. It's always surprising wherever you put it. I use another Zildgen 'sweet ride along with it.

I got this baby 2 days ago and cant leave it alone! First off, this cymbal is BEAUTIFUL! It is slightly off silver with its alloy composition. It has a decorative etching around the center,if looks could kill.... About performance, the manufacturing standards are precise, it is very impressivly engineered (Germans) I use nylon tips which seem to articulate better than wood in my opinion. The sound is very unique. Nice, Jazzy. I dont think hard rock players would find it as useful. Has a bit of a "Gongish", short-wash characteristic when struck solidly. Fast attack followed by impressive but not excessive sustain. This cymbal adds something different to your existing setup. I have Zilgens all around but man I dig this plate! the price is right. Get one you wont be dissapointed.
