I've have owned & played this snare drums since 1986 when I purchased my super classic maple kit. I've been drummer professionally since I was 14 years old. I have 40 some years behind me playing Ludwig kits. This snare drum is all you'll ever need. I use this drum on my Pearl masters series, Yamaha kit., Sonor kit and of course my Ludwig kit. This snare drum beats them all and the crack of the snare can't be dublicated. You won't be sorry making the purchase.

The COB (Chrome over Brass) reissue Supraphonic`is a Hugely missed snare drum that has built almost a Cult Following over the years. I dont believe there is a recording engineer out there who doesnt have this one on thier must have list of the perfect snare drums. The sound of this snare is almost legendary and can be heard on everyone from Steppenwolf to the Monkees throughout the 60s/ and early 70s. The Chrome over Aluminum model LM400/LM402 has a Dryer, much less ring, and the Black Nickel Anodized over Brass, (Black Beauty) has a Darker, Warmer, and again Less Ringy. The COB Answers very quickly and has a High Pitched Ring at the end of the Gunshot like attack. It can be enhanced or subdued depending on personal taste but gives the drum an unmistakeable, almost Thoroughbred like, Graceful, High Spirited, and Elegant Looking. But Make No Mistake, This Baby Goes way beyond the subtle nuances of ghost notes where you Hear the Entire drum, not just the head or snares like you do with cheap copies, but also has the ability to take your mother inlaws head clean off, your Guitarist will be bleeding from the ears with a single crack of this one. The Manners and Breeding of a Nobleman and the Guts, Projection and Presence of a Gunslinger, One that will Never Disapoint. Last But not least, Replace the P-85 with a P-86 and Puresound EQ, 16 strand snare wires. I like the Evans Coated Genera Dry and HD Dry.

I just received the 6 1/2 x 14 chrome snare drum. It looks great and the new badge is awesome looking. The last time I had this type of snare was 1989 and the sound has not changed one bit. It's exactly how I remember, crisp and clean. the only thing you have to do once you get this drum is tune to the way you like it.

I waited a long time to buy this snare. Didnt have the cash. I've been playing drums for 20 plus years and never had a top of the line snare until now. Well at first it was like a honeymoon. I was thrilled to finally have this snare. I bought the Ludwig die-cast hoops at the same time cuz I knew I wanted that feature. The snare does everything I expected. But I didnt expect the low quality of the components of this high end snare. The p-85 throw off is junk. I bought the p-86. The (supra-phonic) snare wires that came with it are also junk. I bought pure sound wires. Even the hoops that came with it felt cheap. The shell is the only remaining original component to this snare. After I replaced all the cheap parts I now have the snare that should of came stock for the price I finally paid for it. I would still buy this snare but be prepared to up-grade some parts.

I needed a new snare, so I looked to my heroes (John Bonhamand and Keith Moon) for guidence. It is easy to tune and has enough volume for any disposition. If you ever want for another snare after owning this, you're just a compulsive buyer! Go ahead and buy it, it's a safe bet.
