I wanted to add to my earlier review below. I've been playing this snare drum well over a month now & I'm definately impressed. I changed the snare cord/strap to nylon & I'm now able to adjust the snares a lot better. The snares are really responsive, no need to change them out. The snare drum is versatile...I've tuned it variously. I own the 6.5 x 14, and I get a lot of volume as well as sensitivity. I definately like the die cast hoops...great sound with clarity & bright "attack" along with warmth..."got to love brass"! The stock photo doesn't do the drum any justice...everything's black nickel & stunning! Again, this drum is worth the money...sound, quality,...a drum that delivers!!

I just got mine and it's nice. It has great sensitivity, and a good crack but also has good depth and body and it looks great. Worth the money the money.

I have always Played Ludwig, and you get what you pay for. If you've ever considered buying the black beauty but the price turned you away, this is your drum! I have the 6.5X14 and It was worth every penny and waiting the month it was back ordered. Wonderful Black nickle over Brass shell, nice low tones, with that unmistakable brass pop.

I have been drumming for 25 years, and in my experience, most drummers go through many snares, trying to find the perfect sound. It is a drummer thing. Well I finally found it. The craftsmanship is top notch, beautiful finish, and amazing sound. It is a nice fat sounding drum with an awesome brass pop, and has a wide tuning range. It is also super-responsive. If you like the classic Black Beauty, you will love this snare. It can be tuned to sound identical to one.
