Best snare drum ever!

I've been playing drums for 22 years and finally decided to purchase a higher end snare. After a ton of research, I finally settled on the 6.5 x 14 Ludwig Black Beauty and I'm so happy I did. This drum cuts through everything! The brass shell can be loud when you need volume as well as sensitive when you need to play quietly. It projects even the lightest ghost notes. When you pair a coated ambassador and an ambassador snare head together on this drum, it REALLY sings!

The only complaint I have is with the stock P-85 throw-off. It doesn't adjust smoothly and the arm is awkward. I will be upgrading to a P-86 throw-off soon. For the price, I wish Ludwig would just include the P-86 on this drum. Also, even though the stock wires sound good, I decided to replace them with Puresound wires and noticed a slight improvement.

Is it worth the money? Yes!

This is one of my first snare drums and i will never give it up. It gives you an awesome sound even with the stock head. Overall it is definitely worth every penny.

The 6.5 x 14 Black Beauty is the best sounding snare drum I have ever heard, I use it for all of my gigs, rock, country, variety, etc. After playing a 5 x 14 Supraphonic as my main snare for years and always loving it, the BB has taken things to the next level. I have a variety of Ludwig snares old and new, but none approaches the power and sensitivity of the Black Beauty. This is a lifetime snare, buy with confidence and be happy forever.

This is definitely one of the greatest sounding snare drums I've ever played. If I had to use two words to describe this drum, they would be power and sensitivity. The Black Beauty has such a loud crack that makes you cringe every time, especially the 6.5x14 more than the 5.5x14. But it is also great for playing quiet, the sensitivity is so amazing, you barely touch the stick to the head and get great snare response. If you're a drummer that likes to hit hard but also cares about dynamics than this is the snare for you. The Black Beauty is pricey but it is worth every single penny. This snare has made drumming so much more enjoyable for me. In my opinion the Black Beauty is the best snare ever made.

I just got black beauty (6.5x14) and i am truly blown away. i was hesitant to play it at first since it is quite stunning to look at. the snare is super sensitive and rim shots are deafening. bottom line, the black beauty is worth every penny. get it!
