Just bought this shell pack could'nt be happier with it. Chrome plating is good the wrap looks great shells(inside)finished nice I think the wood is mahogony like on the other Catalina Club series drums. Comes with Evans G1 white coated heads on toms and snare.I have a 5 pound 20" Zildjian ride cymbal on the bass drum mounted cymbal holder(steady as a rock)works fine no problems.The rail tom holder is alot better than what we had to work with on the drums sets in the 1960's. I did replace the bass drum tightening rods with Gibraltar bass drum T-Rods to make the bass drum look like the orginal.It's also nice to have a 14"x22" bass drum instead of 18"x22" or in some cases 20"x20" bass drums! You can get the 14"x22" bass drum in the top of the line USA Gretsch drums but the USA drums are very expensive so it's nice that Gretsch makes kits with these "old school sizes" available at an affordable price-thanks Gretsch. I play 50-60 and 70s music and this kit fits that era of music just like back in those days. I'm 62 yrs old so you probably see where I coming from. In my opinion there's not a thing wrong with this kit. I hope this review was helpful to all young and old alike.P.S take a look at what Buddy Rich Max Roach Ringo Star and Charlie Watts used. i played this set yesterday at my guitar center, and its probably the best set ive played on ((i havent played on many)) but the heads werent tuned right. the price is nearly as great as the set, which is why im saving up for it.

I checked this kit out at a local Guitar Center. It was disappointing, although you do get what you pay for. Among the problems were the rail being placed near the reso head on the bass drum instead of closer to the batter side the way it was on the real 64 kit. Also, the rail is the standard Gibraltar, which is over engineered and a nightmare to adjust to lower heights the way the original 64 rail worked. Worse, the holder that attaches to the rail does now hold.

Another problem is the flimsy shell mounted cymbal arm. I would not trust it with any ride cymbal larger than an 18".

Finally, the BDP wrap was flat looking -almost as though it was painted on - instead of the classic black diamond pearl finishes with depth in the wrap.

On the plus side the kit sounded reasonable for the price ... what one would expect from a lower tier kit, and at a distance it looks nice.

I had this on order, but canceled my order after seeing it in person. It's a shame because a little more attention to small details (like an authentic rail placement), a better cymbal mount and a decent rail and this could have been a winner despite the cheap wrap.

I just recently bought this drum kit, and it performs great. I use it for traveling from gig to gig. It is MUCH more portable than my 7-piece kit. Gretsch makes great stuff and this is definitely not a let-down. This kit is all-around awesome, because it has that great old-school sound, feel, and look. It is a replica of a 1964 kit, but everything has been Beefed-Up. If you are looking for an old-school set, a portable set, or just a nice one to have, I would buy this drum kit. If it came in more colors I would probably buy another. Buy this kit, and you will not be disappointed.
