This Snare is a beautiful object. It came in the original box, and packed in its "Craviotto" case. The snare is very sensitive and has a "Snary" sound, not dry and not to much ring. I believe it to be better at lower to middle volumes. My personal opinion is not for "Hard Rock". But would probably work. Nice rim shots, and can get different sounds depending on where hit. Its very light. Worth trying out and is as good as anything else out there. Great Quality.

The Most Musical Snare I've Ever Heard!

I played this snare right out of the box, without tuning, and it sounded more crisp and warm than any snare I ever played before. The tones produced go well with all kinds of music. I play various genres ranging from acoustic jazz to alt. rock and this snare responds without compromise to the individual styles. With the depth only being 5.5, you probably wouldn't expect this to be an ideal choice for harder hitters, but it's crack sounds very crisp when driven harder, definitely not harsh. It's very musical. It's sensitivity is comparable to an alloy shell, yet it's tone is immaculate and is well rounded from the low end to the high end. It's not bias of being too deep or having too much resonation (a characteristic difficult to find in a maple). It's absolutely perfect. Highly recommended and worth every penny.
