This device works well for jamming but obviously you would not want to use it for live performances. Just practice jams. It is 1000 time better that a metronome!

Very Useful

This machine has been invaluable to me, but then again I haven't lamented the purchase of any musical equiptment; it all comes in handy at some point in my opinion. Now, I haven't used this for a performance. What I have used it for is writing. I usually start with chords and then try to harmonize with bass next which i program into this machine. This gives me a visual picture of the bassline and allows me to place the beat and accents on and around it with the drums and percussion. Then I teach it to my boys. I might be using this live for some stuff that is beyond the abilities of my bassist and drummer, possibly any bassist or drummer. I'm not to worried about the sound. Just put this thing through a pre amp of some sort or even a mic'ed guitar amp and tweak the setting a bit and you can get some interesting non-stock sounds. And don't worry about shuffles and blue's timing. It does triplets with ease if you need a 123 123 instead of a 1234 on 4/4. Not to mention it does all the other singnatures and goes down to 32nds.

This machine is OK! It's great for jammimg and for keeping time. You may program it for your own style. The styles that come with it are somewhat basic, however this machine is only for jamming. It will help you with your timing and also will help in constructing drum patterns for your own music. This is a great deal for the price! Buy it, play with it.....then find a real drummer!

I am definitely satisfied with the DR-3. HOWEVER, when I first bought it, I was ready to throw it through my window. I couldn't figure out how to use the damn thing. so...I bought a tutorial DVD. after that it was smooth sailing. if you're willing to get the DVD IT'S DEFINITELY WORTH IT!! I'm not posting this link to promote my music, I just want any non-believers to hear how amazing the DR-3 can be. WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SECRETPHOTOS I wrote all of these songs with the DR-3. enjoy.

Presets are iffy. The manual, like most roland/boss manuals, is severely lacking in user friendliness. The tones are good enough for demos if you have the patience to figure out how to program your own patterns. I think I'm going to be looking for something else in the near future that's easier to program, or has better presets.
