I just bought a Boss DR-770 from a friend of mine and this thing's great. I have been a user of drum machines for quite a while having used all different types with the last one being a Boss DR-660. The 770 has better sounds to me because when I use sounds like the triangle I can actually hear the "metal" in it.

I play blues and rock. Plenty of rock settings here, but missing the blues settings I am accustomed to from my SR-16. Also, when playing live with the SR-16 i was able to go from rythem ->fill->chorus and back with the SR-16. But also makes it easier for playing songs from beginning to end on the fly without programming,...even when jamming alone. Think I'll sell this unit and buy a SR-16 again.

Very crisp sound and very fun to play with...easy to use as well and makes any type of music that much easier than having to go find an actuall drummer...this is a fine replacement for the real deal....

We're a bunch of geezers who play roots rock for local benefits. We lost our drummer and needed to keep practicing. The good Dr. was just what we needed.

With just a little practice we were able to use it in live performance settings.

It sounded great - either through the p.a. or a tube amp - especially the Fender.

Lots of variety on the preset rhythms. We run about 70 songs - mostly 50's & 60's rock n' roll - and have plenty to chose from.

This thing really helped us.

I am a drummer that purchased the DR-770 to use in a live situation as 1) A melodic metronome, and 2) for live accompaniment. The BIGGEST downfall of the unit is the display. There isn't much contrast and it is hard to view even in normal lighting conditions. On a dark stage, this will be hard to see, if not impossible in some cases. It is also limited as far as footswitch functions. Cannot advance songs via footswitch. The DR-880, due to be released shortly, addresses these two issues. Other than the two downfalls mentioned, the unit is OK. It is very easy to use after reading the manual one time. The sounds are typical Roland E-drum sounds. Nothing outstanding, but they will certainly work for my situation. If you are looking for the most realistic drum sounds for recording purposes, you might want to keep searching but also plan on spending a lot more money than the DR-770 goes for. Would be great for the project studio, or some pre-production work. The overall build (plastic case) seems a bit fragile, too. The unit seems to have been built more for the studio guy who will always see it in good lighting, and won't be lugging from venue to venue.
