I hated it.

I bought the Alesis sr-16 with the main goal of hooking it up to my stereo amp and hearing loud high quality simple sets of pre-programed metronome clicks to make practicing my drums and guitar more interesting. I figured this would be job 1 of a drum machine followed by the complicated applications. I tried for 4 hours reading the manual and still couldn't figure out how to acomplish this. The set-up is not intuitive or user-friendly at all. It plays several pre-recorded rythms that sound OK but I had no use for this. I wanted to smash this thing with a hammer by the end of the day. I ended up ordering a simple Simmons drum pad with 6 pre-progamed metronome clicks and the ability to hook up to an amp to accent your accoustic drum set with choice of several sounds. I should like this one better because it can't be any harder to figure out that the alesis-sr 16.

Drum machine was barely used, 6 hours total. Sat for many months unused. Discovered failure 13 months after purchase, out of warranty. Alesis won't stand by its product and I don't use it enough to warrant spending any more money on it.

THE Alesis SR16 is super cool in the way it sounds and what you are able to do with it. It was pretty easy in setting it up it only took me 5 minutes and I was playing along with it. I got at least 5 different drum sounds that I am working with this thing it great I didn't think I would like but amazingly I do.

I bought one hoping I could figure it out since I struggled with- and gave up on a Boss 8 track recorder recently. This unit was quite easy and I love it. If you can't have a great drummer at your disposal, this is the next best thing for your writing and demo recording projects. I sounds awesome and the huge variety of sounds and tuning make this fantastic for so little money.

I purchased the SR-16 a couple of weeks ago for use in recording some tunes in my home studio. Although at first it was confusing to figure out how to use it, after a few hours it all "clicked" - no pun intended - and it really is very intuitive. I've used it now to record two songs and it's very easy to compose your own rhythms and build them into Songs or just play them "live" while recording.

One thing that I do not like about the unit however is that the pads have to be hit ridiculously hard in the sensitivity mode to get any decent volume. With all my force, I can only occasionally get a reliable "loud" sound. So, I changed the volume to the fixed settings. Then, I go into the Step Editor to adjust the individual volumes so the pattern doesn't all sound the same in terms of volume level. A little tedious but not really that bad.

I'm happy with this unit as it seems to so far be meeting my needs.
