Works fine as a cheap supliment

I own the full DM5 Pro kit which uses this pad and it is very, very loud. It is in no way tunable. and I wouldn't call it a real drum head cuz the the mylar skin is stuck right on top of a piece of foam.

Enough of the bagging on it...This pad otherwise is very responsive and if its parameters are set correctly, it has a very good dynamic range. The only issue I had was with the foam underneath. It began do form air bubbles and I had to replace it. That was a relatively easy procedure and now works good as new.

I should probably have played these before ordering the whole kit. Although they DO play quite nice and respond well, the whole gimmick of "real heads" is totally useless as all the heads do is cover a foam pad. I suppose they're KINDA tunable, but not in a way that affects anything at all. These are really just foam pads, with a plastic head strapped over it. My only real complaint is that they're really, really loud. You'd need isolating headphones to play and hear only the module sounds and not the sound of your sticks thwacking against the pad. I'll be keeping the tom pads but swapping out the snare for a roland mesh (likely a PDX8).

I bought the Alesis DM5 drum set that features all the pads like this one and I have been playing for about 7 years now in various metal/rock and jazz bands,at first play they are very very loud unlike any other mesh pad or ruber. they are made from some kind of drum head that somewhat resembles a real head but seems more plastic. which brings a much louder sound when played especially for you hard hitters,these pads also leave deep groves from sticks when played on hard, The only way I kept from throwing them all out was to swap the heads with some roland mesh and now they work pretty well for me.
