the Alesis DM5 is an awesome module, for the price. For ab 5 months i have had my eye on the reviews and the ratings and i decided one day that ill give it a shot. So, after i bought this back in June, Ive had no problems, and no screw ups. What really made me happy ab the unit is that i can mix my own presets. There are several things i wish the module had such as FX, and maybe choke FX for the cymbals, but im not complaining about anything. Im very happy with my unit and w my kit. I play it about 1 -2 hours a day. If you arent sure, i would recommend it. Its a great practice kit, prolly not ideal for big, live show, but for cheap recordings and practice, this is the answer.

This is a solid kit for practice. Ghost notes are non-existent. None Dual zone. If your technique is above average and you're looking for dynamics, then this is not the kit for you. Also, no input to use for Ipod or other musical device.

I've had maine for over 10 years. I used it to trigger acoustic drums. I used Ddrum pro triggers with the DM5. Works great with remo muffle rings. Great for straight rock songs or disco/techno stuff. But if you are a dynamic drummer looking to get into electronics go for a td-20 or even the out dated td-10 drumset.

Limited polophony killed it...just not near what I expected. Poor hi-hat controller. Not enough wire on the bundle to be usefull without stressing the snake. Rack is tough though...pads are a real pain in the you know what to adjust. Limited adjustability. No flex springs to absorb shock on the cymbal pads. Worth less than half what I paid... real dissapointment.

Good drum module for the money
Posted by statiusdrums from Los Angeles on Jun 18, 2008

This module comes down to the saying you get what you pay for. Not that this is a bad thing. This module offers some cool sounds but it is also kind of limited. Not much room to tweak the sounds but it does the job well for. For metal and fast music the sounds work fine and within the first few days of use it increased my bass drum speed by a good amount. I am using this module with ddrum pro triggers on my kick and snare the only trouble i have had is with the toms but this is not the modules fault. so in conclusion go get one.
